I mainly share playlists from dance parties because I mainly DJ at functions where people are dancing, but I kicked off the new year by doing something different: a fitness group’s workout. I won’t lie– 2018 Greg was not completely happy that 2017 Greg booked a gig that started at 11am on New Year’s Day, and required 2018 Greg to begin 2018 by crawling out of bed at 8am, but 2018 Greg obliged, and showed up on time.
Starting a new year with a morning workout makes a lot of sense. What better way to start building new fitness habits, or reinforce existing ones, right? And a great soundtrack to the workout certainly helps motivate people to come exercise. My instructions were to play upbeat, fun, music without worrying much tempo. The workouts weren’t being done “to the beat,” so the vibe was more important than the BPM. Here’s what they sweated to:
- Da Funk – Daft Punk
- Wildcat – Ratatat
- Blind – Hercules and Love Affair
- Over & Over – Hot Chip
- Move Your Feet – Junior Senior
- Bad Liar – Selena Gomez
- Blurred Lines [feat. T.I. & Pharrell] – Thicke
- Sexy Back – Justin Timberlake
- Turn Down For What – DJ Snake & Lil Jon
- Crazy in Love [feat. Jay-Z] – Beyoncé
- Electric Feel – MGMT
- Cream – Federico Franchi
- I Love It [feat. Charli XCX] – Icona Pop
- Toxic – Britney Spears
- Bad Romance – Lady GaGa
- I’m Too Sexy – Right Said Fred
- Lady Gaga – Applause
- Feel Good Inc. – Gorillaz
- Marble House (Rex The Dog remix) – The Knife
- Playgirl – Ladytron
- Uptown Funk [feat. Bruno Mars] – Mark Ronson
- Get Lucky [feat. Pharrell Williams] – Daft Punk
- Someone Great – LCD Soundsystem
- Gettin’ Jiggy With It – Will Smith
- Intergalactic – Beastie Boys
- Shake It Off – Taylor Swift
After the workout came some meditation time:
- Rise Up – Andra Day
