DJ Mixtapes

Life ain’t nothing but a good groove, a good mixtape to put you in the right mood.

Mixtapes

I’ve been making mixtapes for nearly as long as I can remember. While I seldom use a cassette to hold the finished product anymore, in my mind any curated selection of songs saved in a specific order qualifies as a mixtape; the term has transcended the medium. Since I first learned of the existence of mp3s, I’ve been sharing mixtapes online in the format of shared playlists. Below you will find some beat-matched live mixes, and some song-by-song playlists.

On the left you can click to play some recordings made of me performing live, with the music mixed, beat-matched, and segued. The songs will of course be different when I perform for you, but you can get a sense of my music mixing abilities from the recordings.

On the right is a list of mixtapes I’ve made over the years, some on actual cassettes, others as digital playlists, all digitized for streaming. You can get a better sense of my own musical preferences from these, as, unlike many of the live performances, they were made for my own use.

Recordings of Live Mixes

All the mixes below were recorded live, and feature beat-matching, blending, and some occasional scratching. And fear not, I won’t do any scratching or other turntablist DJ trickeration at your event… Unless you want me to!

Mixtapes & Playlists

Click any of the links below to hear the playlist. None of these are mixed for a dance floor. They’re ordered collections of songs that I’ve created over the years, like a classic mixtape. Some of the oldest ones even began their lives on actual cassettes, and have been converted to digital form.
