Rebecca & Chris’ Wedding 8-11-17

Friday weddings are rare enough that that reason alone would be enough to share last night’s playlist, but I’d be sharing this one even if it were a Saturday affair because the couple wanted a mix of music that is right up my alley. The bride was a regular at Popscene circa 2007, as was I, so when she said she wanted her wedding to feel like a night at Popscene in ’07, well… I knew just what to do!

(For those of you reading this who don’t know what it is, Popscene is perhaps America’s top weekly indie dance party. Besides DJs spinning the latest and greatest indie, electro-rock, and Brit rock hits, Popscene regularly plays host to up-and-coming artists who later become big names. I remember seeing Arctic Monkeys perform there, months before their first album was released and broke the Beatles’ records. I saw Amy Winehouse there, too, as the opening act for Klaxons, before she was a household name. I could go on, but check out their web page if you want to see an impressive list of musicians who played the club before going on to superstardom.)

Back to last night’s wedding– the groom is from Liverpool, which meant a large number of the guests were from Liverpool, which meant, of course, Beatles songs! And a lot of other British songs. My forté!

For the cocktail hour, I mixed mostly classic ’90s Britpop tunes. This got some great feedback from the crowd, and even got a few people dancing.
