Online Dance Party the 13th: The Final Chapter 6-12-20

Was last night’s dance party really the final chapter? Maybe. Probably? It feels like it was definitely the final installment of “Online Dance Party” for the time being. I mean, it was called The Final Chapter, so it has to be done, right? Can you imagine if a movie had “The Final Chapter” in its title, but then they made another sequel? That can’t happen.

Obviously, I’ll be back next Friday with the 14th chapter of Online Dance Party, but I do have a twist in mind to change things up. As society re-opens I’ll need to get a sense of what my audience wants, but a large chunk of my viewers seem to be people who used to go to clubs, but had stopped going long before the pandemic, and are enjoying a sort of laid-back virtual club experience. I think for them, Online Dance Party is a low stakes way to relive the glory days of their club-hopping youth without venturing outside, and they may have come to these online events in non-pandemic times had they been “a thing.” Perhaps now that the concept has been established, the phenomenon will continue even when the pandemic is completely over.

Conversely, as the country is slowing opening back up, and if all goes well, there may be less need for distraction and dancing in place. Whatever happens next, it was a fun ride while it lasted, and I am grateful for everyone who showed up to dance, or just to hang out, these past 13 weeks, and for however many more weeks the show continues.

What’s next, you ask? Tune in next Friday and find out! Meanwhile, here’s what you heard if you tuned in last night:
