House Calls (1978)

I had high hopes for this film. It is a lesser-known romantic comedy from the 1970s, written by Max Shulman, one of my favorite comedic authors of all time, and starring Walter Matthau, one of my favorite actors of all time. It also pairs Matthau with Glenda Jackson, who starred with him in Hopscotch, a film I really enjoy. While this film does have its moments, and some great comedic lines, something about it fell flat.

It went a long way towards redeeming itself with the very last line, and scene, and I was happy after watching it, so there’s that, but it is not among Matthau’s best. All that said, I’ll probably watch it again some day.
