I played music for another large audience again this week– 379 virtual dancers, grooving to the tunes of a DJ on Twitch. This time it was James Bond themed, with the title taken from the 6th Bond film, as this was the 6th Online Dance Party. Of course, despite being named after On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, I had to go with the iconic Sean Connery as Bond for the party logo!
I wore my tuxedo whilst DJ’ing, and more than a few guests appeared on Zoom in Bond-related garb. Truth be told, these shelter-in-place dance parties are a lot of fun.
After six weeks, I’m getting quite adept at being a Virtual DJ, and hosting an online dance party. Sheltering in place has really changed the dynamic, but with real-time feedback, and requests, from participants in the Twitch chat window, I am able to interact with my audience and keep them dancing in place.
Some of the requests really had me digging through my records to find tracks buried in the nether-regions of my collection that I hadn’t played in years!
